Keep Moving Toward the Vision!

It is with great hope that I write today. Hope for a better tomorrow and for a better future.

Because of the work I do I get the privilege of seeing huge wins and changes happening when people join together and follow their vision toward big transformations. We need to continue to focus on the positive, our strengths, our greatest inspiration and celebrate our victories. Only from this place can we hold hope and move forward confidently and with purpose.

Now we also can’t get ahead of ourselves. When vision, skills and a good action plan are in place, but progress is still painfully slow, we can’t throw up our hands in frustration. I hold on to hope because I hold onto my vision of possibilities: realistic, achievable possibilities. I hold on to hope because I am seeing all the things we are changing, step-by-step.

Like watching people beginning to change their minds as we talk to them about their greatest concerns.

Like seeing people, both youth and elders, register and pledge to vote for the first time in their lives. People worked 24/7, evenings and weekends while dealing with Covid-19, on voter registration and get out the vote. People like our TAKE 10 volunteers, who talked with and listened deeply to people they were registering, identifying leaders to train and involving people in ongoing issue work for 2022 and 2024. We must keep making sure our voices are heard, and we are represented.

We understand that while this election is momentous, the work doesn’t stop here. We know that we must celebrate the victories along the way that encourage prompt and meaningful change. And then keep going.

As Howard Zinn told us, “The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
