INSPIRED

Published on October 26, 2020.

In September, media reported that more money was being spent on political ads in North Carolina than any other state. It is one of six states where 9 out of 10 of all ad dollars are going to this contested presidency.

Not only is the presidential race close, but the Senate, the governor’s race and control of the state legislature are all in play.

How are we countering disinformation and voter intimidation that go hand in hand with this spending?

With less than a week to go, I am inspired every day by the creativity shown by our TAKE 10 trainers and volunteers. From upbeat voter registration drives to encouraging people to vote, they are using every means at their disposal to energize and empower voters in spite of COVID and blatant attempts to scare and disqualify voters of color.

I love what Pastor Brown from FVCC is doing. He wanted to reach young voters so he mounted a billboard on the back of a truck, got one of his deacons to make a rap song, and drove up and down the streets of his North Carolina community playing it. Enjoy and be inspired too! Enjoy, by clicking the below photo, and be inspired too!

I also love SunShine Station’s “Souls to the Polls” van. What a great way to provide safe transportation to those who need it.

“In the spirit of community,” ABC2 is hosting several Parties at the Polls. Not only are they providing transportation but ABC2 wants to ensure that that “this election is the safest for everyone who wants to vote.” I like the party aspect – with DJ 3-Two-1 and Brandy’s Food Truck in attendance, and of course, masks and physical distancing.

Our volunteers and trainers are ready for November 3rd. Here, at Spirit in Action, we are standing by, prepared to support them with our hotline. With vans, 4x4s and food trucks, we are building the force of inspired volunteers and infrastructure that our state and country needs today.

How do we keep building this force when our work is more important than ever? To learn more about the groups that inspire us, click here.
